A Jaycee is a member of the Junior Chamber, a worldwide organization of young professionals that is not affiliated with any particular religion or political party. Jaycee members are men and women between the ages of 21-40, who meet regularly in local chapters to build connections and community. Famous Jaycees include Bill Clinton, Tom Monaghan (founder of Domino’s Pizza), JFK, Elvis Presley, Al Gore, Charles Lindbergh, Ted Turner and Prince Albert II of Monaco.

Our local Jaycee chapter is more than 80 years old, making us one of the oldest chapters in the state of Iowa, and the only remaining chapter in the Quad-Cities. We pride ourselves on blending social opportunities with service – like planning our Bridal Expo and having an after-party, hosting our Jaycee Santa program, and fundraising by connecting with the community through special brews! We believe, that faith in God brings meaning and purpose to human life.

That the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations.

That economic justice can best be won by free man through free enterprise,

That government should be of laws rather than of men,

That earth's great treasure lies in human personality,

And that service to humanity is the best work of life.

She is a loving wife to Tim, mother of an active teenager Dayton, Godmother to 4 awesome kids Jayden, Carter, Beau and Bella and a fur momma to two spoiled cats Midnight and Addison. She is a loyal Cubs fan and enjoys spending her free time with family and friends, traveling, attending sporting events, volunteering, creating Essential Oil concoctions, kayaking and camping.

Forest Kelly
VP of Management
VP of Membership

Forest was a Cedar Rapids Jaycee before he moved to the Quad Cities and joined the Quad Cities Chapter in May of 2019! So far, Forest has made the most of his JCQC time by serving on the 2019 Brew Ha Ha committee and 2020 Bridal Expo Committee. He is currently the VP of Management and Membership, and is helping develop a new event for 2021.

Forest is part of the inside sales group at Arconic, but has a extensive background in event planning. He enjoys visiting local breweries and coffee shops, and loves taking bike rides to the farmers market in spring and summer. His free time is also usually spent with his fiancé and their dog on runs at different parks in the QCA.

Edward Owens
VP of Individual Development

Though Edward is a fairly new face in the Quad Cities, he and his family have made themselves right at home! Edward, his wife, and their two daughters moved here from Greenville, North Carolina, where he started with their local JCI chapter in 2011. During his time there, he served as the VP of Business and as the President. Edward joined the Jaycees of the Quad Cities in 2019, and is now the VP of Individual Development.

Edward works for Arconic as a Senior Customer Service and Sales Representative for Automotive Inside Sales. When he isn't working or catching up with his fellow Jaycees, he loves to spend time outdoors riding his bike, sailing (which he hopes to do more often in the summer), or playing with his kids at the park.

Michael Valerius Jr.
VP of Community Development

Michael Valerius Jr. joined the Jaycees of the Quad Cities in 2019 after being nominated and winning the Young Community Leader Award for 2018. After being a general member for a year, he was chosen to serve on the board as the Vice President of Community Development.

Michael has his bachelors degree in the area of management and is very involved in the art community of the Quad Cities. In his spare time when he isn't working with the Jaycees or making art of his own, you can find him with his hands dirty in the garden at his home!

Kate Mapes

Kate joined the Jaycees in 2017 and because she enjoyed the volunteer opportunities and friends, she's stayed around! Kate has assisted with 2019 Bridal Expo, was the 2019 Treasurer, and is now the 2020 Treasurer.

Kate is the Gardens and Special Projects Manager at the Quad City Botanical Center in Rock Island. She grew up on a dairy farm in Port Byron, graduated from UW-Platteville, and interned in Epcot at Walt Disney World. Kate and her husband Steve are big Disney fans, and they look forward to taking their daughter Rachel there some day. Kate loves so many things, from their two dogs Satchmo and Harvey, to Dole Whip, cross stitching, Big Bang Theory, and visiting other botanical gardens. Kate is also active in multiple other volunteer organizations.

Hannah Thomsen
VP of PR & Marketing

A Quad Cities native, Hannah became a Jaycee in the spring of 2019. During her first year of involvement, she joined the Brew Ha Ha planning committee and served as the Marketing Chair. In the beginning of 2020, Hannah started as the VP of PR & Marketing. Being a Jaycee has become a big part of her life, and she can't wait to see where the Jaycee journey takes her.

Outside of the Jaycees, Hannah is a Marketing Manager for the American Rental Association. In her free time, Hannah is an assistant photographer with Brandon Kane Photography, creates hand lettering art, and loves to visit local establishments with friends. If something social is happening, you can be sure to find her there!

Kelsey Watson

Kelsey, the Secretary for the JCQC 2020 Board, takes pride in her community involvement. On top of being the Secretary and on the Bridal Expo Committee, Kelsey is involved in multiple other community organizations. She was born in the Bay Area of California, but somehow made her way to the Quad Cities and was forced to buy her first winter coat.

Kelsey is the Sales Executive at the Axis Hotel in downtown Moline. She adores her cat, Gretel (with plans on getting a Hansel in the future) and considers herself an ice cream connoisseur. She absolutely loves to travel, plays volleyball as often as possible, enjoys writing for her personal blog, often tries out new fitness classes and activities, and is obsessed with anything Michael Scott/The Office.
